So Much For Normal...
I heard some statistics earlier about unemployment and how the numbers are going to get worse throughout 2009. I thought, I don't even know anyone without work. A few short hours later I got the call. Kevin was laid off today.
I'm somewhat scared. But I know God will see us through this tough time in our life. In our entire married life of over 28 years, he's only been without work one time. It was 1984. We had 2 babies and I was about 8 months pregnant with our third baby. He didn't look for work until the baby was about a week old. He was unemployed for about 2 months total. It felt like a decade, because money was so tight. But it wasn't long before he was blessed with a very good job. Since that time, he's never been without employment.
Back in 1984 when I first learned of his unemployment, I cried. I cried hard. After a good hard cry, I dried up my tears and in a state of semi-shock I went to the grocery store and stocked up on dry beans and rice. I didn't know what to do with beans and rice. I hadn't ever cooked beans. But I knew I had to get down to the basics. I laugh about it now. All I could think about at the time, was how was I going to feed my family. As if babies are going to eat beans and rice!
I know we will make it through this.
PS. If you know of anyone hiring a structural steel fabrication estimator or a project manager, email me! LOL
