Mother's Day

How things change around my house year to year is always amazing to me. This year we have two boys living at home and the house is so quiet all the time. Way too quiet, if you were to ask me.

Yesterday was Aaron's 27th birthday. WOW! I have a 27 year old child. Where did the time go. It seems like it was just last week I was in labor... on Mother's day.

Several older sisters in our church always told me to slow down and take time to enjoy the kids. Take in every moment, because in no time at all, they wouldn't be little anymore. In the moment, when the kids are little, and the house is chaotic with a huge to-do list, cooking, cleaning,  dishes, making beds, the never ending laundry pile, and all the effort it takes just to keep up with little children... it's hard to think about the future, and how fast time will go by.

Well, this morning I woke up to a text message on my cell phone (bright and early, as the kids forget the time difference). "Happy Mother's Day mom! I love you!!" Sweet Brandon... then the phone rang, Chris was calling to wish me a wonderful day. Super sweet, but it made me realize just how quickly the kids have grown and how far from home they are.

I'm glad I had my Aunts and the older sisters in the church to advise me about slowing down... in a sense, they were saying stop and smell the roses. I tried to take their advise,  but it's hard to slow down. After all, that laundry pile turns into a mountain of laundry if we slow down too much.

Well, I'm off, I have teenagers at home, a 27th birthday to celebrate... and a grand baby to love on. I'm a mom... (and a grandma) with so much to be thankful for.

Well, I guess a new baby is just about the greatest mother's day gift of all! God's timing is perfect! Happy birthday to Aaron, and Happy Mother's day to you! I'll try to slow down when I have my kids, too, but now is perfect for practice. I want to have great memories from when I was a kid, not just to remember being in a rush to grow up.

I'm with Sabriena, I don't want to be in such a rush to grow up. Hehehe. I'm having a time stopping to smell the roses right now.....

Your post made me mist up a bit. I remember Aaron being 11 when we first moved to your part. Time does fly! I know my kids will be out of the house soon. I am thankful Indy is still with us. Those older sisters were right.

Neena, the timing of his arrival was perfection! I had him just in time so Kevin and my dad made it to church that morning.

Gale, lol I'm with you...

Mrs.Martin, WOW! Was it that long ago...
