We bought a couple cases of energy star rated compact flourescent light (CFL) bulbs, so we could replace every regular bulb in our house. The benefits of using these CFLs:
- Use 70% less energy than ordinary light bulbs
- They last 8-10 times longer - the bubls we purchased have a 9 year warranty for reasonable use of 3 hours a day. They also carry an unconditional 2 year warranty.
- Save money on electric bills - based on 12 cents per kwh it saves $56 for the life of the bulb.
- Create less waste in our landfill.
- Help our environment by using less energy - Â

So you may think I'm stretching it when I say our red starbucks mugs are helping me save our environment... but think about this. The consumption of bottled water in America reached a staggering 154 billion litres in 2004. It takes over 1.5 million barrels of oil just to make the bottles for the bottled water. WHOA! That is enough to fuel 100,000 cars for a year. Now think about where all those bottles end up. Did you know in some parts of the USA recycling is not practiced? So those water bottles end up in our landfill.

Okay... so they don't have to be starbucks. And they don't need to be red. But these our favorites! When we are home, our water is tap water... filtered tap water. Imagine that. We drink tap water.

You are a good woman. We use filtered tap water too. Some of our lights are energy efficient, I'm all for earth friendly.
We just bought those light bulbs too. Now to just get them out of the packages and into the fixtures. LOL We also drink tap water (unfiltered) directly out of the ground, and we love being able to get water out of the faucet. In our last house we couldn't even cook with the well water! It came out of the faucet the color of tea. gag!
I think we are lucky our tap water tastes good. We are on a city water line... lol actually it's a country water line. Sometimes it tastes funky (muddy chlorine) when the lake turns over or whatever it does in the spring. Our basic water filter works wonders.
Tea colored water.... yuk - gag!
