The story was easy to read, and I thought I figured out the whole mystery long before I got the end of the book. When I was near the end of the book I was surprised to find I was right. Generally the mystery books I read aren't so easy to figure out.
The story revolves around Lily, and her nine year old daughter, Rose. Lily moved to Hawk's Cove years earlier. She is a strong woman, raising a child with a life threatening, congenital heart condition.  Lily started a woman's club, The Nanouks, as a support group for the women of Hawk's Cove. Â
Marisa moves into town with her nine year old daughter, Jessica. Rose and Jessica are best of friends, but Jessica has a secret she can't even tell Rose. Marisa and Lily connect almost immediately and a bonding friendship is formed between the two women.
Oh, but there is more to this story, there are lonely, broken hearts, friendships, love, internet scams, and a murder mystery the press just won't let go of.
I'd read this book again and I would recommend it to others!
Before reading Summer's Child, I've never read anything by Luanne Rice. Her writing is detail oriented. I fell in love with her characters. When she was describing the setting I felt like I was right there with her. I'm sure the town of Hawk's Cove, Nova Scotia is fictional, but I want to go there!
