Productive Day

I thought I'd get to sleep in. After all it is a Saturday. On second thought, I guess waking up just before 8:00 AM is sleeping in around this house. Anyway, this was a working Saturday for DH, and two of the boys.

Since I was up I made good use of my time and caught up on some chores around the house. Then D- and I headed out to the church for a clean up day inside and outside. We worked along with several other members of the church for just about 1 1/2 hours. Then I was off to visit family with my mom.

My cousin was over for the big car swap meet at the fairgrounds in Monroe. I didn't see him, but I did get to visit with his wife and their little kids for a while. We had coffee with my aunt, uncle, and another cousin.... he was more like the big brother I never had when we were growing up.

Later we went to the lake and watched the fishermen. It was so peaceful I could have stayed there all day long. I thought it was going to be rainy today but it didn't even sprinkle on us all day long. It was simply beautiful.

We spent the afternoon working in our yard. Mom planted more flowers and I went to work trying to find one of my old flower beds. It is completely run over with blackberry vines. For years it was my pride and joy. When I got sick in 2001 the garden spot completely went to weed. Beneath all the weeds and blackberries are a couple of clematis vines, lilac bushes, peonies, ivy, azaleas, and a few other favorite flowers. The poor neglected space is simply a bramble of weeds. I was amazed my lilac bloomed at all this year. I think if I don't clear out the bramble around it the thing might die off by this time next year.  The clematis vine is happy with the unkempt conditions. It puts on quite a show each year as it climbs to the top of a holly tree and blooms from top to bottom. I have little hope for the peony and azalea this year... it is time I take over the weed patch once again.

Well, it has been a long day. I'm exhausted and I hurt like heck from head to toe... maybe a hot shower will kill the aches. My goodness I hope so. Who knew clearing blackberry bushes would be such a workout. I'm off... gonna try that long hot shower now.
