Memorial Weekend

We decided nearly last minute to go to church camp with the boys this year. Unbelievable how much effort goes into getting ready for camping. List making, menu planning, shopping, more shopping, packing suitcases, loading the vehicles. Why do we torture ourselves in such a way? Because the end result is camp and camp is always fun!

We loaded the car on Thursday night. Our intentions were to leave Thursday night... that didn't happen. Everything was ready to go by 8:00 but instead of leaving we had a relaxing dinner out with my mom.

Friday morning bright and early DH packed the ice chest. Just like he packed the car. Never a good idea. I made him step away from the ice chest and I reloaded it so everything would fit. T- loaded it into the car then DH and I hit the road.

B- had to work a few hours so the boys didn't get on the road till about 1:00. Oh that is whole 'nother story in itself! They boys had friends from Oregon stay over and they were riding with B- to the camp grounds. We were expecting them into camp by 8 - 9ish that night. We were expecting A&L and family into camp by midnight. NO phone service at camp so we didn't know what was going on. I didn't sleep at all because they weren't there. They made it safely sometime after 3 in the morning! Like I said... it is a whole long story involving a car breaking down at the rest area on Stevens Pass, more family coming to help out, meeting up with everyone in Brewster. At least they were all safe.

DH and I drove across the North Cascade Hwy and Loup Loup Hwy to camp. Beautiful drive! We stopped along the way and enjoyed a short hike. It was beautiful scenery. I'll post photos later.

The weekend was wonderful. We caught up with friends and family from all over the states. Kids of all ages enjoyed volleyball tournaments, softball, hiking, singing, bike riding, etc...

We camped in the same cabin room as our kids. Our room was adjacent to a long room with more families. There were several babies and toddlers all under one roof. The rafters are open so you can hear everything in the cabin. It was sweet hearing the baby coos and giggles as they were waking up in the morning. I love that sound... I miss that early morning ritual. I miss it, but not enough to go back and do it all over again. I'm happy being a grandma!

DH and I left early. We came back the same way we travelled over. There was a lot more traffic on the way home. In fact, on the way over there was little traffic. Probably because we got such an early start.

Our boys were traveling with friends. They came back through Wenatchee where they all stopped and hung out for awhile. They travelled over Blewett Pass to Snoqualmie and home. They weren't home till after midnight. Late night for a school & work night. I think we are all caught up on sleep now.
